SLICK SPOTS ON MANY ROADS IN THE SHENANDOAH VALLEY MONDAY MORNING
STAUNTON – (4 a.m.) A mix of snow, sleet and freezing rain has fallen on portions of the Shenandoah Valley Sunday night and early Monday morning. Slick spots are reported on many roadways, particularly in the central and northern valley as well as higher elevations.
Crews and contractors for the Virginia Department of Transportation have been plowing and treating roadways as needed. Drivers who must travel on Monday should expect patches of ice or snow until temperatures rise well above freezing later in the day.
Here are the road conditions as of 4 a.m. in the VDOT Staunton District:
Interstate 64 – Minor conditions in Augusta County. Clear conditions in Alleghany and Rockbridge counties.
Interstate 66 – Minor conditions in Warren County.
Interstate 81 – Minor conditions in Augusta, Rockingham, Shenandoah and Frederick counties. Clear conditions in Rockbridge County.
Primary roads – Minor conditions in Highland, Augusta, Rockingham, Page, Shenandoah, Frederick, Clarke and Warren counties. Clear in Alleghany, Bath and Rockbridge counties.
Secondary roads – Moderate conditions in Warren County. Minor conditions in Highland, Augusta, Rockingham, Page, Shenandoah, Frederick and Clarke counties. Clear in Alleghany, Bath and Rockbridge counties.

Road condition definitions:
Severe – drifting or partially blocked road.
Moderate – snow or ice on major portions of the roadway.
Minor – bare pavement except for isolated spots of snow, ice or slush.
