VDOT News - Richmond

SOUTH CHESTERFIELD, Va. – The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT), in partnership with the City of Richmond, GRTC Transit System, the Richmond Regional Transportation Planning Organization, Henrico County, Chesterfield County and CSX, invites residents and travelers to provide input on studies for potential transportation improvements in central Virginia.

Public comments will be accepted through online surveys from April 1 to April 22, 2022. Online surveys and information about these studies can be found on the VAProjectPipeline.org website or by using the following direct links:

- U.S. Route 60 (Semmes Avenue) in the City of Richmond
Address bicycle, pedestrian and vehicular safety concerns, bicycle access needs, and transit and travel demand management needs between Route 683 (Forest Hill Avenue) and Route 1/301 (Cowardin Avenue).

- Route 1 (Chamberlayne Avenue) in the City of Richmond
Improve vehicular safety and multimodal (pedestrian, bicycle, and transit) access and operations between Route 197 (W. Laburnum Avenue) and Interstate 95.

- U.S. Route 360 (Mechanicsville Turnpike) in the City of Richmond/Henrico County
Address bicycle and pedestrian safety concerns and conduct congestion mitigation and capacity preservation between Fairfield Avenue and Springdale Road.

- Parham Road in Henrico County
Address congestion mitigation and capacity preservation, along with bicycle and pedestrian safety concerns between Patterson Avenue and Interstate 64.

- Route 147 (Huguenot Road) in Chesterfield County
Address vehicular and pedestrian safety concerns, congestion mitigation, and capacity preservation between Route 711 (Robious Road) and Cranbeck Road.

Community input received through these surveys will help the study team further refine and finalize potential improvements. The study partners may consider the recommendations for possible advancement through future local, regional, state and federal transportation funding programs.

These studies are being conducted as part of a new program, Project Pipeline, created by the Commonwealth Transportation Board (CTB). Project Pipeline is a performance-based planning program to identify cost-effective solutions to multimodal transportation needs in Virginia. Through this planning process, projects and solutions may be considered for funding through programs including Smart Scale, revenue sharing, interstate funding, and others.

Project Pipeline is led by Virginia’s Office of Intermodal Planning and Investment (OIPI), in collaboration with VDOT and the Department of Rail and Public Transportation (DRPT). The final plan will provide a multimodal investment strategy that can be used to seek and secure funding.
