TRAFFIC IMPACTS BEGIN NEXT WEEK FOR I-195 SOUTH BRIDGE PROJECT OVER POWHITE PARKWAY, CSX IN RICHMOND
Use posted detour from Cary Street to I-195 south for project duration
SOUTH CHESTERFIELD—On Tuesday, October 29, Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) crews will begin work on a $15.7 million project to rehabilitate the I-195 south bridge over Powhite Parkway (Route 76) and CSX rail in the City of Richmond. Work includes repairing the existing bridge deck and structural steel to extend the life cycle of the bridge.
From Tuesday, October 29 through project completion, the ramp from Cary Street/Cameron Avenue to I-195 south will be closed with a detour in place. Traffic will be routed north on Malvern Avenue to Monument Avenue east back to I-195 south. All lanes of I-195 south will remain open throughout the project and access to Powhite Parkway (Route 76) from Cary Street/Cameron Avenue will remain open. Weather permitting, the project is expected to be complete in spring 2021.
The project was awarded to Corman Kokosing Construction Company of Annapolis Junction, Maryland for $9.1 million in mid-2019. The existing structure was built in 1975 and carries approximately 12,700 vehicles per day.
Anyone with questions about the project can call (800) 367-7623 or visit https://my.vdot.virginia.gov/.
