SAFETY IMPROVEMENTS UNDERWAY ON ROUTE 58 AT MILITARY HIGHWAY AND SNOWDEN STREET
Existing median on Route 58 and access at West Military Highway to permanently close starting week of Nov.10 to enhance motorist safety

CHESAPEAKE– Starting as early as the week of Nov. 10, the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will permanently restrict access to and from Route 58 at West Military Highway by closing the existing median on Route 58 and its southern access to West Military Highway and Snowden Street in Chesapeake as part of a highway safety improvements project.

VDOT crews began work on the safety enhancements in October 2023, which includes the permanent removal of the existing asphalt from the median opening on Route 58 at West Military Highway, updating pavement markings and installing new signage. Additionally, the existing guardrail on Route 58 will be extended beyond the closed south access to eliminate vehicular access to and from West Military Highway and Snowden Street.
