LONG-TERM, SINGLE-LANE CLOSURE SCHEDULED DURING BRIDGE WORK ON ROUTE 58 EAST (SOUTHAMPTON PARKWAY)
Rehabilitation project to begin as early as June 19

SOUTHAMPTON COUNTY – As early as June 19, contractor crews with the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will implement a long-term, single-lane closure on Route 58 (Southampton Parkway) east between Route 35 (Meherrin Road) and Route 58 Business (Jerusalem Road) in Southampton County for bridge rehabilitation.

The single-lane closure, which will be in place continuously until fall 2024, will allow crews to safely rehabilitate the existing eastbound bridge over the Nottoway River. Work will include repairs of the expansion joints, pier and abutment, concrete beams and beam ends, roadway surface and other activities.

While the work is underway, the remaining eastbound travel lane will narrow to 11 feet with no shoulder to accommodate the placement of a temporary concrete barrier. Intermittent stoppages, lasting up to 20 minutes each, may be scheduled up to once a week on Route 58 east during non-peak travel times.

At this time, no westbound closures are scheduled on Route 58 in this location as part of the bridge work.

The bridge rehabilitation project is estimated to be complete in fall 2024. All construction work is dependent upon weather conditions, and the schedule is subject to change.
