CONSTRUCTION BEGINS ON INTERSECTION IMPROVEMENT AT ROUTE 360 AND RICH NECK ROAD
Several turn lanes will be extended to enhance safety and operations at Richmond County location

UPDATE July 20, 2022: The contractor has delayed the start of construction for this intersection improvement project at the intersection of Route 360 and Route 619 (Rich Neck Road) in Richmond County. The contractor is anticipated to begin work later this summer. The fixed completion date remains Nov. 15, 2022.

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – Construction is starting on a project to enhance safety and improve operations at the Route 360 (Richmond Road) intersection with Route 619 (Rich Neck Road/Mulberry Road) in Richmond County.

The $1.3 million project will extend the following turn lanes from a short taper area to a full 200-foot-long turn lane:

  • Right turn lane from westbound Route 360 to Rich Neck Road
  • Left turn lane from westbound Route 360 to Mulberry Road
  • Left turn lane from eastbound Route 360 to Rich Neck Road

Next week, crews will install work zone signs and begin to mobilize equipment and materials at the intersection, with construction activity starting Wednesday, July 6. Work will be completed by November 15, 2022.

While daytime and overnight lane closures are possible in the work zone, crews will seek to avoid lane closures at peak travel times during the morning and evening commute.

Message boards will be posted to alert travelers to construction activity and temporary traffic patterns near the intersection.

The project contractor is Jireh Construction Company.

Project Background

Richmond County submitted an application to build this project through Virginia's SMART SCALE transportation funding program.

SMART SCALE was established to choose the right transportation projects for funding and ensure the best use of limited tax dollars. Potential projects that have been determined to meet a need identified in VTrans – the state’s long-range multi-modal transportation plan – are scored based on safety, congestion, accessibility, land use, economic development and the environment.

Once projects are scored and prioritized, the Commonwealth Transportation Board (CTB) has the best information possible to select projects for funding.

To view how funded SMART SCALE projects are advancing toward construction, visit the SMART SCALE Dashboard.
