CULPEPER — A mix of rain, freezing rain and sleet has fallen across much of Central Virginia overnight and the Virginia Department of Transportation is urging drivers to be careful this morning. All roads are reported clear at this hour, but drivers may encounter slick conditions, especially along the Route 29 corridor in Madison, Culpeper and Fauquier counties in the early morning hours.

Drivers who must travel early Monday morning should reduce speed, increase following distance and use VDOT’s free 511 tools before leaving to check road conditions along their route. Roads in the upper Shenandoah Valley are reported to be icy in spots, so motorists traveling to the west should be aware of those conditions.

Road conditions should rapidly improve after sunrise as temperatures rise.
